Platform Update: 25 Pedagogical Metrics
What's New
We've significantly expanded Etodist's analytical capabilities. We added 15 new pedagogical metrics to the existing 10 core metrics, all based on recognized educational theories and frameworks.
10 Core Metrics
These metrics evaluate fundamental aspects of a lesson:
- Student engagement — how actively students participate
- Lesson structure — clear beginning, development, and closure
- Differentiation — adapting material for different student levels
- Feedback — quality and frequency of feedback to students
- Pacing — appropriate speed of material delivery
- Clarity of explanation — clear and logical presentation
- Use of questions — variety and depth of questioning
- Classroom management — maintaining discipline and attention
- Lesson closure — reflection and reinforcement at the end
- Visual aids — effectiveness of visual materials
15 New Pedagogical Metrics
Cognitive Development
- Bloom's Taxonomy — distribution of questions across thinking levels
- Zone of Proximal Development (Vygotsky) — working at the edge of student capability
- Metacognitive strategies — teaching students to "learn how to learn"
Motivation and Attitude
- Growth Mindset (Dweck) — encouraging effort, not just results
- Intrinsic motivation — creating conditions for self-directed interest
- Emotional climate — safe and supportive atmosphere
Teaching Methodology
- Formative assessment — checking understanding during the lesson
- Scaffolding — gradually removing support as students grow
- Critical thinking — developing analysis and argumentation skills
- Cross-curricular connections — linking material with other disciplines
Inclusivity and Diversity
- Inclusivity — considering all students' needs
- Cultural responsiveness — respecting diversity in the classroom
- Student voice — opportunities for student self-expression
Practicality
- Real-world connections — applicability of knowledge beyond the classroom
- Digital literacy — use of technology in teaching
Context-Aware Analysis
The AI adapts its evaluation to the lesson context. Subject, student age, and grade level influence expectations:
- A 1st-grade lesson won't be expected to show high metacognitive strategy scores
- A beginner language lesson shifts focus to scaffolding
- A high school physics lesson expects real-world connections
What It Looks Like in the Report
Each metric in the report contains:
- A score from 1 to 10
- Justification — specific examples from your lesson
- Recommendations — what can be improved
All 25 metrics are displayed in the report's overview tab with group-based visualization.
